This is so exciting. I have not one but two short stories hitting the market today, both in hardcover anthologies from Random House, and both totally awesome.
This has been a very big year for short stories for me, and these two anthologies represent my fourth and fifth stories of the year. They are both stand alone shorts (no unicorns or post-apocalyptic landscapes or collegiate secret societies) and they probably couldn’t be more different.
“Burned Bright” in Foretold (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound) is a dark story about a girl, a cult, and the end of the world. If you go to the editor, Carrie Ryan’s blog, she’s posted the first line of each story.
“Stray Magic” in Under My Hat: Tales from the Cauldron (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound) is a funny and heartbreaking tale of a girl who works a a dog shelter and the very strange pet who turns up one day.
To celebrate the release of these anthologies, I’m giving away a copy of FORETOLD. To enter, leave a comment here telling me if you’ve ever prophesized anything. Open internationally, goes through this weekend.
(And yes, I know I need to announce winners from the UMH giveaway. Coming soon.)
