A Fortnight of Unicorns: Action Figures (Part One)

Back when the book was merely a twinkle in my eye (it may have been early 2006), I told my idea to a friend. She made me an action figure of my main character (and something else, coming soon), for my birthday. I named a character in the story after her.

The small print says: Comes with cell phone, inappropriate clothing, and magically changing hairstyles. Weapons kit sold separately.

When I first unwrapped the present, I almost had a heart attack, wondering how in the world I’d come up with something that was already, somehow, in production. A unicorn hunter… named ASTRID? What were the chances?!?!?! That’s how real it looked.

Much mock was made of my gullibility. But the action figure (and its fabulous packaging) still gets a place of honor on my desk.
