Elephants on Parade

Hello. Meet Hannibal:

Yes, that’s right… Sailor Boy and I hit level 40 tonight with our adorable Draenei couple (it was only a little bit annoying and required a couple of rounds through one particularly frustrating instance). But it was worth it, because once we hit level 40, we got our licenses to drive… elephants!

Or, in this case, elekks, which is like the video game version of the elephant.

The elekks come in three colors: brown, gray, and purple, and since I’m already pretty purple, I decided to go for brown. Also, the gray looked really sketchy in the shady area where you can buy them. But once in the light, they look kind of cool. So now part of me wishes I’d gone with a gray one, like Sailor Boy did:

What do you think?

Speaking of fantasy worlds, has everyone checked out the new website from debut author C.L. Wilson? Her first fantasy, Tairen Soul Book One, Lord of the Fading Lands, is due to be released this October. I was an early adopter to the Tairen Soul club (which, um, means I’ve long since claimed my member of the quintet) and read this marvelous epic a few years ago, before the brilliant people at Dorchester bought it and published it.

It’s amazing, guys. One of my favorite books of all time. Definitely the best book I read in 2003. Highly recommend it. Put it on your wish list for fall.

Wheee! You two look HAWT on your new elephants! My little draenei just hit 24, so it’s going to be a while before I have one of my very own.

  2. Heather Harper says:

I will put her book on my TBR.

And my multi-vitamin this morning was an orange elephant. 😉

  3. Patrick says:

In Headless(topless?) Girl with Cape #3, Amy is going to get involved in a virtual world, isn’t she? Six chapters on how she has to reach level 62 to save R&G from a nuclear bomb.

  4. Bill Clark says:

OK, Diana, we know your elephant is Hannibal, but we don’t know what SB named his. Or whether it’s male or female. The suspense is becoming unbearable….

And, no, Patrick, SB did not name his elephant after you – Patrick or Patricia, as the case may be. Perhaps he picked Bill, or Billie? 😉

Cool ride, Diana. I have a Draenei, too — a pitiful level 8, lol. My problem is every time I get a character so far, I chuck them and start a new one. (They remind me a bit of unfinished manuscripts . . .)

Now that you’ve got the elephants, what’s next on the horizon for everyone’s favorite Draenei couple?

  6. Jess Burkhart says:

Oooh, sounds like a good read! 🙂

  7. Diana Peterfreund says:

The elekks don’t actually get to have names, so SB didn’t name his. I call mine Hannibal in private, though…

And no, SSG3 — currently titled RITES OF SPRING (BREAK) — is about the Digger’s secret island hideaway.

Phyllis, my brother would say you have “alt-itis.” My second-highest character is a Draeni hunter at 16. But once I started playing only with SB, I realized that I didn’t like playing by myself and now I don’t really want to go back and level up anyone else.

  8. CaesarsGhost says:

I’m going to feed your Elekks to my cat. 🙂

  9. phyllis towzey says:

Have you seen this on YouTube? My son just emailed me the link.

Beware, when your level gets that high, lol.

  10. gatorade says:

how old are you? this is really pretentiously boring shit.

  11. Diana Peterfreund says:

Three strikes and you’re out, gatorade…

Feel free to cease reading at your leisure.

  12. ERiCA says:

LOL, the elekk market sounds like a blast!

  13. Marianne Mancusi says:

GRATS on getting your mount! Now you just have to reach 70 so you can have a flying one. And you’ll never want to level another alt again once you realize you’ll have to walk instead of ride for 40 levels. 😛

What I want is a Netherdrake – which should be released in the next patch. Problem is you need 5,000 gold just to start the quest…

You and Sailor Boy should go to Blizcon with me this August!! 😉

You two look pretty hot on your elephants. Of course now that I’ve heard the story of how you met….
