Big surprise: Out of 48 votes, 23, or almost half of you, insisted that “it was all in the execution.” Well, of course it is. I’d be the first to tell you that flashbacky tangents are going to slow a story down, but I still put on in chapter four of my book. Guess I needed a speedbreak there. 😉
Okay, on to the more interesting statistics.
6 votes apiece for “start with action” and “start with character”. Tied there.
5 voters came out in favor of “years earlier” prologues.
Slightly fewer (3 votes) said they liked those “villain’s POV” prologues in suspense novels.
3 Voters nixed either prologue option. “Don’t you dare give me prologue” they said, no doubt adhering to the Crusie school of writing. 😉
And only 2 voters, one of them being myself, attacked backstory.
Interesting. Next time, I think I’m only going to let you all vote for one option. See where your loyalties REALLY lie.
This next one is about POV.
