Writer Geekery

After yesterday’s reader geekery, now we have a matching set:

Writing routines of famous writers. I love the bit about Joan Didion and her drink and meditation on the day’s work. Especially the drink part. I’m totally up for that. Maybe while Q is watching Dinosaur Train?

My friend and local DC writer Caroline Richmond has a very inspiring resolution this year.

“Simply put, I want to draft a book that scares me a little. That makes me ask: Can I pull this off? Am I good enough? Can I even finish it? By working through these fears and doubts, I really hope to grow as a wordsmith and as a story-builder. ‘Cause that’s the only thing I can control in this crazy world of publishing—improving my craft and crafting better books.”

Justine Larbalestier talks about how, you know, not all writers work the same way, and that’s OK.

Aaron Starmer talks about how even if you think a book idea has been “done” — there’s no one who can tell it like you.

Kathy Temean reminds us that even the greats get rejected, as apparently Daniel Day Lewis was not up on Steven Spielberg’s invite to play Lincoln… at first.

Have a great weekend, folks. It’s my birthday weekend, which means I think it should start today, don’t you?

But of course, I have this to deal with:

Fat, isn’t it?
